Organization Description: Alliance Rights, Nigeria is a NGO working since 1999 to promote the interests of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans- gendered [LGBT] persons in Nigeria and to advance the eradication of various forms of persecution, violence, stigma and discrimination of all persons in Nigeria due to their Sexuality and Sexual orientation.

Our Vision:-‘A Nigeria where equality in all totality is achieved and articulated by and for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans- gendered persons’.

Our primary objectives are:
1] Promoting and protecting the Rights and interests of the LGBT citizens of Nigeria, with the aim of reaching full legal and actual equality for the LGBT people in Nigeria.

2] Drafting suggestions and proposals for the implementation of laws and legislative regulations pertaining to the Rights of the LGBT in Nigeria.

3] Fostering democratic values in Society and seeking active protection of Human Rights through various campaigns.

4]Advocating for equal rights of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Trans- gendered [LGBT] people at the level of National, State and Local government institutions.

5] Organizing various activities promoting the rise to collective self determination of LGBT people in Nigeria

6] Creating a positive image of LGBT within the Nigerian society in cooperation with the Mass media.

7] Publishing educational materials and maintaining a website addressing sexual and reproductive health and rights and the psychosocial aspects of homosexuality for the young LGBT.

8] Providing consultancy in cases of discrimination and violence against LGBT people in Nigeria.

9] Participating in National and International collaboration with LGBT organizations, sexual and reproductive health and rights networks, etc.

10] Cooperating and networking with NGO’s/CBOs friendly to LGBT existence in Nigeria and the agenda of Alliance Rights, Nigeria.

11]Commitment to confronting the HIV and AIDS epidemic in Nigeria, specifically as it affects Men who have sex with Men[MSM]with further determination to reversing the current alarming trends of HIV infections within the MSM sub-population in Nigeria and mitigating the impact of AIDS in this marginalized and socially excluded people.

To this end:-Alliance Rights, Nigeria has embarked on the following programmes:

1] Wellbeing in Difference[Workshops and seminars].

2] The Gay and Lesbian adolescents sexuality education series.

3] Men-Alive support groups for Positive Living MSM.

4] The Alliance AIDS Initiative [HIV/AIDS Prevention education, care and support for and with MSM].

5] MSM round tables on sexuality, sexual health and rights.

6] Nigerian sexual minorities’ conferences.

7] The Nigerian LGBT Pride and Carnival [Black- Gold Pride].

8] Legal Aid.

Alliance Rights, Nigeria benefits from the individual and collective experience, goodwill and wise counsel of a Board of Trustees, and its activities are coordinated on a day-to-day basis by a management team.

A.R.N is registered with the relevant Local and State government agencies in Oyo, Lagos and Abuja-FCT and is currently processing the Corporate Affairs Commission [C.A.C] registration.

Alliance Rights, Nigeria winner of the Red Ribbon-Breaker of silence awards on HIV/AIDS in 2003 is a member of The International lesbian and gay association [ILGA], The International AIDS Society [IAS],The Civil Society network on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria [CISNHAN] formerly CISCGHAN, Human Rights network in Nigeria[HURINET]and is the Convener and current chair of the West African Gay and Lesbian Association[WAGLA].
