Organization Description:
Mahidol university is in charge for teaching, performing researches, and providing laboratory services on tuberculosis. We also participate in developing guideline for TB treatment and prevention and evaluating new techniques to rapidly and accurately diagnose of TB which are crucial factors for TB control. We also try to develop the appropriate point of care test for TB and join in clinical trials for new strategy on MDRTB treatment.

Please tell us how your organization is contributing to your country's national TB control plan:
We put the DOTS in the curriculum of medical students. The direction of teaching, service and research are conformed to the recommendation from StopTB, WHO. Our staffs are members of the national TB sub-commitee for development of guideline for treatment of TB, advise on laboratory diagnosis, assess new technology on TB diagnosis for implementation in the country and performing research on POC test for TB, molecular epidemiology of TB and determination of drug resistant TB.

Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

Drug-Resistant TB:
We provide the service on DST for both first and second line antituberculosis drugs for patients. We report the result to public by presentation in International Conference and/or publish the data in International Journal.

TB-HIV:
We provide the DST for TB-HIV and TB patients from governmental hospital in Thailand free of charge via the Drug Resistant Tuberculosis Fund, Siriraj Foundation under the patronage of HRH Princess Galyanivadhana Krom Loung Narathiwas Rajnakarindhorn.

Laboratory Strengthening:
We collaborate with other laboratories from University and Ministry of Public Health to built TB lab.network in Thailand.

New Diagnostics:
We perform the research works on development of new laboratory methods for rapid diagnosis of TB based on molecular techniques.

Fundamental Research:
We also perform the research work on pathogenesis of TB meningitis.

Research:
We implement the MAS-PCR for rapid screening of MDR-TB funded by NIH, USA to evaluate in 3 laboratories in Thailand and 2 laboratories in China. The project is on going.
