Organization Description:
Santi TB is a reputed charitable organization in South 24 Parganas districts in West Bengal( India). It have been functioning in the field of TB control programme since 1977 in selected villages of four blocks under 24 Parganas(s) and Kolkata for a population approx 5.5 lakhs.Santi is a recognised by the District TB( South 24 Parganas) as a peripheral Health Institute(PHI).Santi TB is a recognised MC-TC under the RNTCP programme.

Please tell us how your organization is contributing to your country's national TB control plan:
Santi TB is recognised MC-TC under RNTCP Govt of India. Santi provides sputum examination at free of cost and X-rays facilities at subsidised rate . Santi conducts training and orientation programme for panchyate members, Rural health practioners, DOT providers, Scholl teachers,school students,ICDS workers and local youth members. Santi provides home visit to all diagnosed cases for intensive phase. Santi TB has its own IEC materials like flip charts, banner, posters, reading materials etc. This existing materials are very useful for the grass root communities. Recently Santi TB has developed some IEC materials for health providers. BSC nursing students and ANM students also participate in our training programme.

Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

TB Care Delivery:
Santi TB organizes TB orientation programme with Village Health Practitioners, community leaders and school teachers. We share with them the difficulties in the community and get their suggestions.An initially health education programme also held on every Friday. All diagnosed and symptomatic cases are participated in this programme.Santi has developed educational materials like flip charts posters and booklets for grass root workers as well as health personnel.All TB patients are followed up at their residence by the health worker, treatment supervisor and medical officer to see that medicines are being taken regularly. Our health worker also meet with community based DOT provider and discuss the issues relating to the patients family and social life besides the health problem.

TB-HIV:
Santi TB runs a general OPD from Monday to Friday. All diagnosed cases receive free treatment facilities from the clinic. All diagnosed cases are being treated under RNTCP (DOTS). Voluntary Counselling and Testing Centre run by Child In Need Institute at Santi TB Campus for individuals to have to access to information and counseling on HIV/AIDS. TB patients suspected of having HIV/AIDS are referred to the center.

Laboratory Strengthening:
Santi TB has own diagnostic infrastructure. Our health workers as well as Laboratory Technicians are trained by the State government.
