Organization Description:
Fudan University is a government university. Department of Epidemiology, Fudan Univesrity (Former Shanghai Medical University) was set up in 1952. In 1981, it started to confer doctor’s degree certified by Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council; at the same time, the department became one of the national key-departments. In 2003, the department became the national key lab of public health safety and infectious disease control after the epidemics of SARS. The research areas of the Department cover the etiology and disease control on infectious and non-infectious disease such as TB, HIV, SARS, schistosomiasis, cancer, CVD, diabetes and psychological disorders; health policy and strategy assessment and clinical trials. Both the macro and micro epidemiologic approaches are applied and developed in this department including field epidemiology, molecular epidemiology, behaviour epidemiology and spatial epidemiology.

A group of researchers in the Dept. of Epidemiology and Dept. of Social Medicine are working for TB control. The research areas cover operational research on TB case detection, DOTS implementation, access to TB care, cost-effectiveness analysis, TB transmission and molecular mechanism of TB/MDRTB transmission. In April 2005, a TB research center was set in the School of Public Health, Fudan Unviersity.
