Federal University of Rio de Janeiro is the largest federal university in Brazil, with over 60.000 students and teaching/administrative staff. The Health Sciences Center is the largest center of the University and has one of the most important Tuberculosis research center in Brazil, involving several hosspitals and institutes. The research and training in TB is centered at the TB Academic Program, lead by Drs. Afranio Kritski and Jose R. Lapa e Silva.
