Organization Description:
Planeta Salud is a Spanish-based non -profit organisation that works to improve the life expectancy and quality of life of people living with or at risk of acquiring HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and/or malaria world-wide. Planeta Salud believes in scientific investigation and the social and political promotion of new health products to treat, diagnose and prevent diseases: we defend the R&D of new therapeutic, diagnostic and prophylactic tools such as drugs, vaccines and microbicides -ensuring they are effective, safe and promoting universal access. Such work is done within an ethical framework which respects and promotes human rights and gender equity.

There is no national TB programme in Spain. Nevertheless,we are in contact with the Public Health Agency of Barcelona (on of the most important public organizations working in the control and prevention of TB in Spain).

Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

Drug-Resistant TB:
Promotion of new treatments, through our collaboration in the CRAG and with the advocacy and support to increase funds dedicated to TB treatments (e.g. Raising awareness about TB Alliance work)

New Diagnostics:
Raising awareness about new and innovative diagnostics, supporting FIND work

New TB Drugs:
Promotion of new treatments, through our collaboration in the CRAG and with the advocacy and support to increase funds dedicated to TB treatments (e.g. Raising awareness about TB Alliance work)


New TB Vaccines:
Raising awareness about new and innovative vaccines, both for prevention and for therapy, supporting Aeras work. Also, we work with local investigators as Dr. Pere Joan Cardona, by raising awareness about his job in developing a therapeutic TB vaccine.
