Organization Description: |
Women's Initiative for Self-Actualization (WISA) is a national development non-governmental organisation established 2004. WISA is based and operates in the Southern Nigeria with the mission to promote women’s rights, gender equity and sustainable empowerment for poor and excluded women and children.
Our objectives include but not limited to;To advocate for women empowerment, to develop personal growth through education and social programming in a safe environment, to improve maternal health and reduce child mortality, HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases and to advocate for women’s participation in decision making and governance.
Our target groups are people living with HIV/AIDS, TB, Women, OVC, Youth, Men and the disadvantaged persons
In Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, with emphases to rural communities, tuberculoses (TB) have been recognized as an important health problem among homeless persons and among residents of inexpensive lodging houses. From our baseline survey, it was discovered that ages (12-45) including women, children and men are most affected with this disease. A lot of people do not know their TB/HIV status, the government has compliment its work on HIV/AIDS scourge but unfortunately is unable to cover TB programs in all the local government areas. Indeed, from the statistics drawn from Akwa Ibom State Action Committee on AIDS (SACA), Akwa Ibom State is the second State in Nigeria with 8.5% ratio in terms of HIV/AIDS problem and from our baseline survey, those infected are ostracized by family members and the communities causes wide spread of this scourge among the people. The gap and challenges are that HIV/TB status of the people in the remote areas is high, there are no adequate information on the TB programs, the government is unable to cover the state through one-one programs with the people, insufficient mobilization of the communities and local health workers to get involved in social mobilization and advocacy programs about TB/HIV.
Justifiably, WISA also will is plannin |
