Declaration

Declaration of interests:
Asha Deep Foundation is running its health programme for the last 26 years in 63 resettlement colonies and slums of Delhi, Ghaziabad district of Uttar
Pradesh. Advocacy is a major part of this programme. The organisation is in constant touch with governments’ health department to address the problem. Due to this, ADF was welcomed into the national TB control programme and DOTS scheme was awarded to ADF. The organisation under its TB control- DOTS Programme conducts more than 60 meetings with community people to build and raise awareness about TB and as a result screening of thousands of suspected cases is carried out for confirmation of diagnosis and treatment.

• Every year, the organization organizes Street Plays, Rallies, and Health Camps to increase the knowledge of community people about TB and for better access to the service under DOTS, which leads to successful completion of treatment/cure of 318 patients last year. The participation of community has increased through these activities and their access to the ADF centre for treatment has increased. The number of patients relapsing from treatment has also been low.

• The Training/capacity building of Health staff is carried out regularly to improve the level and quality of service. It has helped in timely completion of regular treatment by patients and reduction of defaulter patients. The service delivery by the staff has improved and they ensure that medicines are taken in time by the patients. They observe and supervise drug intake. Untoward side effects, if and when they occur are dealt with suitably and to the satisfaction of the patients/their families. Every year thousands of suspected cases are screened for confirmation of diagnosis and about 318 confirmed cases complete treatment/get cured under the DOTS Programme. Our Treatment Completion Rate is among the highest in the district. The follow up of patients is mandatory and helps in providing good quality of service.
