Organization Description:
WFDD is a not-for-profit organization working at the intersection of religion and global development. The organization’s creation was led by the World Bank and the office of the Archbishop of Canterbury and it is now an independent entity housed at Georgetown University in Washington DC. WFDD has two central objectives: to reinforce, underscore, and publicize the synergies and common purpose of religions and development institutions addressing poverty; and to explore issues on which there is little consensus and where common ground is unclear among different faith traditions, within faiths, and between faiths and development institutions.

Because of TB’s human impact and rising concerns about TB drug resistance and co-infection with other deadly diseases, national and international development organizations are giving a new priority to fighting TB. This past year, WFDD published a report surveying the contributions of faith-inspired organizations to the global fight against tuberculosis and suggesting ways to increase their participation and effectiveness. The findings of the report were informed by in-depth discussions and exchanges with representatives from a range of development organizations and religious traditions involved in TB work. As part of preparation for this report, WFDD convened a meeting at Georgeotwn University in June 2010 to review current research on the roles of faith communities, leaders, and organizations in fighting tuberculosis. We are currently discussing discuss options for future action and research on this issue.
