" 2. PEYORG is interested in tuberclosis because TB control in our operational area will help the organization ahcieve it mission and specific organizational objectives. 3.The TB situation in Ghana has been increasing steadily since 1996 (7,425 cases). But in 2007, the number of cases increased sharply such that in 2008, Ghana recorded 14,479 cases. But due to the tremendous efforts made by WHO and other partners including NGOs, this decreased to 11,309 cases in 2009. Case detection in 2008 was 63 but this rose to 64 in 2009. It is important to note that the last time Ghana’s detection reached the 63 figure was in 1998. This means Ghana needs to make frantic efforts to handle the disease effectively if the target to eliminate it by the year 2015 is to be achieved. In this light PEYORG has intensified it awareness campaign and Expand DOT in all the communties we operate. |
