Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

TB Care Delivery:
During the course of the ongoing TB Care 1 Mentor-mentee Project (in two States: Osun and Oyo States, Nigeria) June-September 2012, PriHEMAC identified 2 major problems in the control of TB:
i.Difficulties in accessing TB services by community members living far away from DOTS centres.
ii.Stigma and discrimination among Primary Health Care Workers.

PriHEMAC has made plans to intensify efforts in addressing these problems. The plans include:
•Advocating for Increase in the number of Primary Health Care (PHC) Centres providing sputum-specimen collection services in our Project sites - Ibadan North and Oluyole LGAs of Oyo State, Nigeria
•Training of health workers on the existing myths and latest facts of TB to discourage discrimination and stigmatisation of TB patients by health workers.

Drug-Resistant TB:
PriHEMAC has the information that the rate of Multi Drug Resistance TB (MDR-TB) is highest in Ogun State, Nigeria. Therefore, one of the objectives of PriHEMAC in a proposal is Averting Defaulting Rates in TB Treatment to reduce rate of MDR in Ogun State.
