| Organization Description: |
When the rights to form unions and to establish Non-Governmental organizations were granted under the independent democratic environments, some initiative persons of Charpane, dedicated to social and economic development of the community, came to a conclusion that an Non-Governmental Organization will play a vital role in the reduction of poverty, empowerment of the disadvantaged, vulnerable and ultra poor in the society and as a result of which "SAHARA NEPAL" an N.G.O. dedicated to development came into existence in the year 1994. Sahara Nepal works under four stages of empowerment, Health and Sustainable livelihood processes (1. awareness, 2. enablement, 3. entitlement and 4. empowerment) for strengthening the structural standard of the backward, disadvantaged and vulnerable community besides acting as a facilitator, so as to enable the community move forward through the process of self learning on experience, based on community style. Approximately,90%of the population of Nepal fall below the poverty line.As a result of lack of appropriate nutrition, unsafe working conditions and environment and lack of awareness and facilities in the health sector,a major chunk of the population are infected by TB.As TB being a curable disease can be treated if sufficient activities are conducted for raising awareness and if the person is treated in time. In Nepalese society, there is still stigma attached to TB and misconceptions related to it.The general population needs to be sensitized and especially the hard-to-reach population like Female Sex Workers, laborers, rickshaw pullers and people from low economic background needs to be reached and made aware about every aspect of TB including immunization. So, our organization plans to implement TB awareness activities in esp in the above mentioned community and increase the referral for TB testing and treatment in Health centres run by the Govt. |
