Organization Description:
Brief history of the organization:
STUDENTS” RELIEF SOCIETY is non-political, non-profit and secular voluntary organization registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1958. It evolved on 2nd October 1978.
Students Relief Society was born with ideological commitment to do concrete work for betterment of society. It has kept its focus on deprived section of the society, especially on women issues. It has touched ecological issues on one side, whereas it has developed a strong belief in revival of traditional practices in health. Since the initiation, there was a wide canvas of its intervention, which includes working with students & youths on petroleum conservation, promoting thrift & credit habits among women through Self-Help Groups (SHGs), reviving traditional health practices etc.

The organization strives to

• strengthen the bonds of community spirit
• work towards social justice
• promote peace and security
SR Society’s mandate:
• improving vulnerable and disadvantaged persons’ quality of life
• meeting the needs and restoring the rights of marginalized women, Children/ youth, tribal people and backward castes
• focus on education and income generation herein with participatory approach and self sustainability
The organization mainly operates in Jaipur district. But the learning of its activities has compelled the organization to start functioning in Chittorgarh, Jaipur, Tonk, Bhilwara, Barmer, Alwar, Sikar, Bikaner, Bundi, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Ajmer and Nagaur districts to produce effective, time bound quality results. The organization has initiated its activities in Phagi and Sanganer block of Jaipur district.

The organization is the Mother NGO of the district Nagaur in Rajasthan. Every health initiative that is taken careof the government is managed by te organization, and also every health program in the district, either government or non-government, is monitored by the organization.

Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

Drug-Resistant TB:
The organization has a complete espablished health care centre in Kota Rajasthan, and it has its running activities for the health of local poor people. The organization plans to expand its TB related activities not just by hiring an expert doctor from the field, but also a strong capacity building and motivational plan of programs.

TB-HIV:
The organization is working with 900 FSW and 300 MSM in Kota, Rajasthan, who are from the poor and vulnerable to the disease of TB. The organization plans to support and capacity build them and also youth of the area, in addition to providing proper medication to the ones suffering from TB.

Research:
The organization, with its wide work area across the poor urban and rural Rajasthan, plans to get into operational research for the development of people and families suffering or have suffered from TB, and support them for their overall growth and development.
