In 2003, PLUS was formally registered under the West Bengal Society Registration Act (1961) and currently has seven elected community members on its board. Through our intervention in HIV prevention program we found that The Indian Tuberculosis control programme, ‘Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme’ is working in a very strategic way but the reality is that in Howrah district most of the slum dwellers & poor people prefer grass root level doctors instead of Govt. facilities for tuberculosis treatment due to easy accessibility or familiarity with them. Most of the time the grass root level doctors doing treatment erratically and in maximum cases the affected person develop MDRTB and spread TB to other family members and neighbourhoods.
keep this sitution in mind we understood that it is urgently needed to increase the outreach in slum areas under RNTCP to cope up with this problem.
To address this issue in National level we have identified and trying to build the competencies of the motivated health advocates and TB affected people and to stop the dangerous treatment process. We strongly belives it is necessary to strengthen the representatives of TB affected community and civil society with the latest knowledge in TB, MDR-TB and HIV associated TB. through our health and HIV related outreach and clinical service we reach out most at risk population with minimum budget and linking with the DOT centre though we belive
