Organization Description:
Youth Advocates Ghana-YAG is a Non-Governmental Organization which emerged through the efforts of ten (10) young Ghanaians in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The ten initiators of YAG saw the need to offer social services and health education to rural communities. This vision came about when they realized on their regular visit to rural communities that most rural folks needed information about health related issues such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Tuberculosis (T.B), Sexual &Reproductive Health Rights and education.

Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

TB Care Delivery:
Youth Advocates Ghana-YAG works with a wide range of social groups, non-governmental organizations, religious groups,students groups and communities to help build relationships with key people and organizations and to identify common concerns.These focal groups are equipped with the requisit skills on early detection and provide the beneficiary communities with basic knowledge on resources availbale for those affected, processes for testing and aid institutions available in Ghana. The campaign seeks to erase any cultural and superstitious beliefs associated with the disease and that prevent people to seek medical attention. This creates opportunities for the community to learn new knowledge together and together kick against TB.

TB-HIV:
Youth Advocates Ghana-YAG has being working in collaboration with the local health centers to build synergies between TB and HIV treatment and prevention at the community levels.Our past achievements are:
New Case detection in rural communities,referral,social mobilization ,education and sensitization on both TB and HIV.
