Organization Description:
The Centre for Woman and Child Health (CWCH) is dedicated to the welfare of vulnerable populations everywhere, by finding solutions through active engagement in their day-to-day health and nutrition problems. We do this by always working closely with families both in their communities and in the hospital setting with just, ethical and compassionate values. Our objectives are health care services, research, advocacy and training all geared towards improving the lives of women and children.
BRIEF HISTORY
In 2002, a small group of Bangladeshi entrepreneurs and medical professionals, concerned by high rates of maternal, neonatal and child mortality, disease and malnutrition in Bangladesh, founded the
Centre for Woman and Child Heath (CWCH), to address these issues with the MDGs as shared targets. The Centre is non-profit and philanthropic and is located on 3.76 acres of land donated by one of the founders in Ashulia - the heartland of the Bangladesh garments industry, about 28 km northwest of Dhaka Metropolitan Area. The same founder has donated approximately US$3 million for construction, in phases, of a 150 bed hospital - with plans, in the future, to expand to a 250 bed hospital with nursing and medical schools.
