Organization Description:
The Youth Association for Development (YAD) is a youth lead, peace building civil society initiative based in Baluchistan and whose roots lies with a core of volunteers in different districts of Pakistan. YAD is human rights based approach with a multi sector development organization working on participatory development approach to bring long term change & sustainable development in the society.
The idea of a civil society organization evolved in 2002, when a group of like minded people working in the social, political, human rights and development sector in Baluchistan and having enough international exposure and experience, got together and initiated the dialogue among themselves on issues of humanism, peace, democracy, human rights, right to information, transparency, accountability, environment, water, sanitation, hygiene, health, education & other social issues in the province and country; The group concluded the need for an organization which can address the above mentioned issues through a holistic approach; promote the value of peace and basic human rights; address democratic and governance issues; conduct research and analysis; initiate dialogues among different segments of society; take steps toward a peaceful, tolerant, and democratic society, conservation of environment & natural resources management, sanitation improvement & hygiene education, working for IWRM and provide an enabling environment to civil society of Baluchistan.

To reduce the burden of TB in rural communities of Baluchistan by improving access to quality TB diagnosis & treatment. To strengthen quality TB diagnosis through a public-private mix approach. To improve treatment compliance by strengthening directly observed treatment. (D.O.T) component of DOTS & enhancing knowledge, attitudes & practices related to TB through inter-personal communication & mHealth

Contribution

Please tell us how your organization will contribute to the Global Plan to Stop TB by briefly describing its involvement in any of the areas of work listed below:

TB Care Delivery:
Advocacy, Communication & Social Mobilization (ACSM) will conduct interventions mainly through using mobile technology. The mobile technology will be used in two ways: 1) sending mass awareness-raising messages in local language, & 2) sending Short Message Service reminders to patients for directly observed treatment D.O.T for improving patient adherence to the TB treatment. YAD will establish local community-based associations namely Hamara Sehait for the purpose of social mobilization.

Laboratory Strengthening:
Expend the network of PHCP & laboratories. They will be mapped, sign MoU with the PHCP & DTC, given trainings on TB DOTS, recording & reporting mechanisms, private laboratories will diagnose & treat TB patients as per DOTS guidelines & will report the data to the project & DTC for validation. Any suspects for MDR-TB will be referred to Hospital for GeneXpert diagnosis for resistance

New Diagnostics:
Undertake public private mix interventions, outreach & active case identification for purposes of improving & expending TB diagnosis. 2 public sector Hospitals are equipped with GeneXpert for TB diagnosis & Rifampicin resistance; establish referral linkages from PHCPs to GeneXpert site for diagnosing Rifampicin resistance, & from GeneXpert site to MDR treatment sites to ensure that the MDR suspects/patients receive diagnostic & treatment facilities.
