Starting from the end of March 2014, the "Proper Care" project for tuberculosis prevention is being implemented in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City. The project is organized by HCMC Public Health Association, Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital, Go Vap Preventive Medicine Center, Otsuka Company and Friend for International TB Relief.
This project does not replace the National Tuberculosis Program, only to fill in the gaps in the program, opening a new direction for the TB program in Ho Chi Minh City. The new points of the project are to invite private doctors (trained in tuberculosis prevention) to join the network and build a counselor force. The patient can go to the county TB treatment team or go to the private doctors in the network. The forms of TB treatment at private clinics will be very flexible and convenient.
In 8 districts implementing the "Proper Care" Project coordinated by HCMC Public Health Association and Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital (with the sponsor of FIT), Go Vap District, District 12 and Binh Chanh District have the highest omission rate. Facing the risk of long-term epidemics, Ho Chi Minh City Public Health Association mobilized and received support from Stop TB, IRD (through FIT) to provide additional funding and latest technologies to detect TB cases and latent TB to receive and manage treatment.
