Request for applications issued jointly on 23 July 2007 by the U.S. National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) regarding pediatric HIV/TB co-infection.

The announcement solicits Research Project Grant (R01) applications from institutions /organizations for research in key areas of HIV/TB co-infection in children. Applications are requested that propose improved modalities for the diagnosis of TB infection and disease, including MDR and XDR TB, in children with HIV/TB co-infection. Applications are also invited for the evaluation of the pharmacokinetics of first- and second-line anti-tubercular medications, as well as pharmacokinetic drug interactions between these and antiretroviral medications in children with HIV/TB co-infection. Finally, applications are solicited for research to evaluate the effects of HIV/TB co-infection in children on the central nervous system.
