Objective

The President of the United Nations General Assembly will convene a series of multi-stakeholder hearings in preparation of the High-Level Meetings on Universal Health Coverage, the fight against Tuberculosis and Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and ResponseThe Hearings will provide an opportunity for all relevant stakeholders to contribute to the ongoing preparatory process for the High-Level Meetings, with a focus on the current state of efforts and top needs to accelerate response. Participants will be encouraged to exchange views on key priorities for the High-Level Meeting, while underscoring experiences and best practices on the ground, highlighting the special challenges faced by civil society and other relevant stakeholders working in the field and the need for stronger accountability at all levels.

 

Audience

The Hearings will bring together representatives of the Member States, observers of the General Assembly, parliamentarians, representative of local government, relevant UN entities, civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, academia, professional associations and the private sector and broader communities. This includes ensuring the participation and voices of women, children, youth and indigenous leadership. The Hearings will be live-streamed.

Outcomes

The outcome for each will be a summary prepared by the President of the General Assembly. It will be circulated to all Member States and other stakeholders.

Format

Each half-day interactive Hearing will be divided into an opening segment, two interactive panel discussions and a closing segment.

The two panels will feature introductory statements by panelists followed by an interactive segment. Guiding questions for each thematic panel are provided in the provisional programme framework available on the PGA website.

The G7 Summit is an international forum held annually for the leaders of the G7 member states of France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Canada (ordered by presidency), and the European Union (EU). At the G7 Summit, the leaders of the G7, which shares fundamental values such as freedom, democracy and human rights, exchange candid views on important challenges the international community is facing at that time, such as the global economy, regional affairs and various global issues, and issue a document as an outcome of such discussions.

The G7 Health Ministers' Meeting is a ministerial meeting held in conjunction with the G7 Summit to discuss various issues in the global health sector among G7 ministers. In 2023, the G7 Health Ministers' Meeting is held in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture.

 

PROVISIONAL AGENDA

 

Toward “build back better” from the COVID-19 pandemic, the G7 will work together and present a direction and action to strengthen prevention, preparedness and response (PPR) for public health emergencies, to contribute to achievement of more resilient, equitable and sustainable universal health coverage (UHC), and to promote health innovation, which is essential to support addressing these challenges.

Join the Stop TB Partnership and the Private Sector Constituency to the Stop TB Partnership (PSC) for a high-level panel entitled “Opportunities to Scale TB Innovations” on the margins of the 76th World Health Assembly.

 

Stop TB Partnership and the Private Sector Constituency (PSC) are convening leaders from governments, academia, private sector, and civil society for a side event on 25 May 2023 during the 76th World Health Assembly to discuss opportunities to scale TB innovations. With over 3 million people worldwide lacking access to necessary TB care, continued dialogue and partnerships are crucial in developing and expanding solutions to improve the lives of TB patients and their families.

A contribution to the ongoing debate leading to the September United Nations High-Level Meeting on Tuberculosis, this 1-hour panel discussion will explore issues including advocacy for demand generation for access to new and existing tools, financing for innovation and innovation scale-up, regulatory policy and procurement pathways, and the value of inclusivity of health services.

The panel discussion will close with an interactive Q&A, and will be followed by a cocktail reception. Speakers will be announced soon.
