ICASA 2011 brought together more than 10,000 varied HIV stakeholders from 103 countries, providing an excellent opportunity to network, share experiences and learn about the successes and challenges in implementation and scale-up of TB/HIV collaborative activities. Tuberculosis was particularly well mainstreamed in this year’s conference agenda, as can be seen from the ICASA Roadmap of HIV/TB sessions and presentations. Preventive therapy & intensified case finding for TB in people living with HIV

The WHO HIV/AIDS and Stop TB Departments hosted a joint meeting with key experts, 25-27 January 2010, to prepare guidelines on preventive therapy and intensified case finding for TB in people living with HIV. The new guidelines will update the WHO/UNAIDS 1998 Policy statement on preventive therapy against TB in people living with HIV and produce new WHO guidelines, reconceptualising TB preventive therapy and intensified TB case finding, as integral parts of HIV treatment, care and support services.

Universal Access of TB Services to People Living with HIV: Harnessing Collaboration and Coordination
Satellite symposium organized by the Stop TB and HIV Departments of WHO, the International AIDS Society, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, UNAIDS and the Forum for Collaborative HIV Research. It is to be held on Sunday 3 August 2008 from 15:45 to 17:30 in Room SR 10 (950) at the Banamex Centro.
This satellite session will address the key, practical activities that need to be implemented in order to reduce the burden of TB in people living with HIV and ensure the universal access of TB prevention, diagnosis and treatment services. Particular emphasis will be given to the challenges and opportunities of mainstreaming the Three 'I's for HIV/TB - intensified TB case finding, Isoniazid preventive therapy and infection control for TB in HIV care services in order to advocate for their inclusion as core functions of HIV care services.

First HIV/TB Global Leaders' Forum:
One Life, Two Diseases, One Response

Bold new leadership is needed to galvanize action on the HIV/TB epidemic. The first HIV/TB Global Leaders' Forum, to be held on 9 June 2008 at the United Nations in New York, will bring together decision-makers who can accelerate action on fighting the dual epidemic. The meeting, which has been endorsed by the UN Secretary General, His Excellency Mr Ban Ki-moon, will be held on the eve of the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on HIV/AIDS. The Forum will bring together heads of state, senior political and UN officials with leaders of civil society, media, technical agencies and the private sector. It is expected that the Forum, will produce a Call for Action to drastically cut the number of deaths associated with HIV/TB co-infection.
TB/HIV activities at the IAS conference

During the Open Consultation "HIV and TB in the context of universal access: what is working and what is not?" there will an opportunity for meeting participants to share their experiences, views, opinions and other country level findings in posters (graphic presentation).
The rationale, organization and content of the poster presentations are different from the traditional poster session of scientific conferences as they are meant to create a conducive environment for sharing information on country level experience of collaborative TB/HIV activities and for networking.

International consultative meeting in conjunction with the XVI International AIDS Conference

Summary
A meeting was co-organized by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), the International AIDS Society, the Treatment Action Group and the Forum for Collaborative HIV Research on behalf of the Global TB/HIV Working Group of the Stop TB Partnership in conjunction with the XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto, Canada, on 12 - 13 August 2006. The objective of the meeting was to accelerate an effective and joint response to the epidemic of HIV-related tuberculosis (TB) by facilitating the sharing of information and experiences, networking and strengthening the partnership between TB and HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) communities in a forum environment. Lively and interactive discussion was promoted by a very successful marketplace, where participants presented and promoted their experiences, results, views, opinions and country-level findings in poster and display formats. The meeting was attended by almost 300 participants, mainly representing the HIV community, who were also attending the International AIDS Conference. A tribute was paid to Dr Lisa Onyemobi, WHO TB/HIV National Professional Officer in Nigeria, who died suddenly earlier in 2006. The meeting was followed by a TB/HIV satellite symposium on the afternoon of 13 August 2006, which was held as part of the International AIDS Conference. The International AIDS Society, Forum for Collaborative HIV Research, co-organized the satellite symposium with the Stop TB and HIV/AIDS Departments of WHO.
World Economic Forum

The World Economic Forum officially launched the document "Doing it Together: managing TB and HIV at the workplace" at the India Economic Summit where it was well received by over 600 CEOs. It will be distributed at the upcoming annual meeting in Davos "Taking Responsibility for Tough Choices" from 26 to 30 January 2005.
