Breaking News - UN Political Declaration on TB Placed Under Silence Procedure

We are pleased to share that the United Nations High-Level Meeting (HLM) on TB Political Declaration has gone under silence procedure until Friday, August 11th.

The silence procedure provides UN Member States with a time (typically three days) to raise objections on draft UN resolutions or decisions and allows for explanations of their positions. If the silence procedure is not broken, it is expected the Declaration will be formally adopted at the HLM on TB on Friday, 22nd September.

If the silence procedure is broken, we understand further negotiations will take place, since the Declaration is required to have full consensus among all UN member states. The Political Declaration on TB can be
viewed here along with the accompanying announcement letter from the HLM co-facilitators.

The Stop TB Partnership, working with our partners, are currently reviewing the Declaration and will share a position statement shortly. We would like to convey our congratulations to the High-Level Meeting co-facilitators, H.E. Mr. Krzysztof Szczerski, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations, and H.E. Mr. Bakhtiyor Ibragimov, Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations, and their teams, and recognize their leadership and commitment towards this important milestone.

Registration Reminder

The HLM registration deadline for non-state actors with approved accreditation is quickly approaching and will close on Friday, 11th August at noon Eastern (US) time. The registration page and all relevant details can be
found here. For ECOSOC-accredited organizations, authorized representatives from NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC can register here.

In addition, we encourage National TB Programme Managers and their teams as well as all non-state actors,  including civil society and TB affected community members, to continue to advocate for their inclusion in their countries national delegations to the HLM on TB and to
inform us if they secure a place.
