Funding people affected by TB and local communities

The Challenge Facility for Civil Society (CFCS) is the Stop TB Partnership’s flagship program supporting local communities and people affected by TB in the fight to end TB by 2030. It is a unique and essential mechanism that provides grants, technical assistance, tools, and resources to empower community organisations, amplify civil society leadership, and drive meaningful change in the TB response.

CFCS strengthens grassroots networks of people affected by TB and civil society organisations, equipping them to:

  • Generate demand for new TB tools, diagnostics, and treatments.
  • Lead community-driven monitoring for accountability and improved services.
  • Advocate for domestic financing and policy change to sustain TB programs.
  • Forge strategic partnerships to enhance coordination and collaboration.
  • Combat stigma and discrimination, ensuring increased and sustainable access to quality TB services.
  • Enhance awareness and strengthen the capacity of local communities for an effective TB response.

As the only global mechanism providing this comprehensive support to local communities and national TB programs, CFCS plays a critical role in complementing and strengthening Global Fund TB country grants and the Stop TB Partnership Global Drug Facility (GDF). By fostering local ownership and leadership, CFCS ensures that the TB response is sustainable and community-driven.

Currently, CFCS is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and L’Initiative, implemented by Expertise France.

By investing in civil society leadership and community engagement, CFCS is transforming the TB response, breaking down barriers to essential TB services, and advancing the global mission to end TB once and for all.
