Supporting people affected by TB and local communities to overcome barriers to TB services

To ensure that everyone can access the TB services they need, the Stop TB Partnership is committed to empowering local community organisations and people affected by TB. By identifying and sustainably overcoming barriers to quality TB care, we work toward a more ieffective response. The Country and Community Support for Impact (CCS4i) team focuses on three key priorities:

  • Strengthening and sustaining effective national TB responses.
  • Empowering local networks of people affected by TB and community organisations.
  • Eliminating stigma and other social barriers to TB care while developing tailored interventions to reach vulnerable groups.

Local community organisations and individuals affected by TB play a crucial role in shaping, informing, and implementing national TB strategies. Their meaningful participation is essential to achieving the goal of ending TB by 2030. Engaging TB-affected communities leads to:

  • Greater awareness and access: Supporting affected communities ensures more people are informed about TB, available tools, and recommended interventions, leading to increased access to quality services.
  • Stronger demand for innovation: Amplifying community voices drives demand for the latest TB diagnostics, prevention methods, and treatments, ensuring access to life-saving solutions.
  • Enhanced social accountability: Expanding community-led monitoring helps reduce stigma and dismantle barriers to TB care.

The Stop TB Partnership prioritises investments in building the capacity, leadership, and sustainability of local community organisations and people affected by TB. Strenthening these networks ensures that national TB programs are more impactful, community-driven, and ultimately more effective in achieving global TB targets.
