Stop TB Partnership Board announces results of elections for Members

From (L) to (R): re-elected members Mr Aaron Oxley and Mr Austin Obiefuna

05 May 2017 - The Stop TB Partnership Board today announced the results of elections for members from its rotating seats. Four constituencies - Private Sector, Developing Country NGO, Developed Country NGO, TB-affected Communities - have rotating seats on the Board whose role is to provide leadership and direction, monitor the implementation of agreed policies, plans and activities of the Partnership, and ensure coordination among Stop TB Partnership components. All four constituencies followed a transparent election or renewal process.

The Private Sector Constituency (PSC) Board member was selected through an election process. This constituency requested the Stop TB Partnership Secretariat to assist with the election process of appointing its representative to the Board. As a result, Dr Robert Newman, Global Head of TB Programmes, Global Public Health, Johnson & Johnson was elected as Board Member, and Ms Kate Antrobus. Executive Director of Lion’s Head Global Partners as Board alternate. The PSC Board Member(s) will represent the global business community as one of the voting members on the Board.

In selecting the Board seat member for the Developing Country NGO, the constituency led its own process of renewal of its representation during April. The outcome was the renewal on a no-objection basis of Mr Austin Obiefuna, Executive Director, Afro Global Alliance.

Similarly, the Developed Country NGO constituency led its own process of renewal of its representation to the Board, which led to the renewal of Mr Aaron Oxley, Executive Director, RESULTS UK.

The Stop TB Partnership Secretariat assisted the TB-affected Communities constituency (upon their request), with its process of renewal and/or selection. Both seats were open for elections and the six strongest candidates were put up for elections within its constituencies. The results of the election was a renewal of the current community representatives. They are Mr Timur Abdullaev, International Consultant and Ms Thokozile Phiri Nkhoma, Executive Director of Facilitators of Community Transformation (FACT).

The members that have been newly elected and/or re-elected will serve their three year term from 1 May 2017 until end May 2020.

The next 29th Stop TB Partnership Board meeting will be held on 17 - 18 May 2017 in Berlin, Germany.
