The world lit up in red for TB

For World TB Day this year, the Stop TB Partnership continued with great success the global campaign #LightUpforTB. All partners - technical organizations, civil society and communities, government and health officials, TB survivors and our team worked together with local authorities all over the world to light up their landmarks in red and show their commitment towards ending TB.

We want to thank you warmly for supporting us and the entire TB community in this innovative initiative that helped amplify awareness about TB and reach many of those who would remain unaware of the disastrous effects of the world’s number one infectious killer. The successes of the World TB Day 2018 and the #LightUpforTB are more important than ever before as we are building the momentum for the fast-approaching historic UN High-Level Meeting (UN HLM) on TB.

#LightUpforTB initiative was born in 2016 when we wroked with the cities of Barcelona and Rio de Janeiro to illuminate their key monuments in red. The Stop TB Partnership amplified it in 2017 to reach the participation of 31 cities across the globe. This year, we achieved an overwhelming engagement of 44 cities in 21 countries lighting up their landmarks during the World TB Day week and the night of 24 March to make red #EndTB color. We hope that this effort helps light up as well the lives of those suffering because of TB.

Thanks to your outstanding efforts this World TB Day created an impressive map of red spots across the globe. Every red spot is captured on our website with detailed information about cities and landmarks who have joined the campaign. Access all photos of the global campaign in this public folder which will be regularly updated in the coming days. See also our #LightUpforTB campaign on Twitter here.

We are looking forward to working with you to take this initiative a step further towards an unprecedented world dotted with glowing red sparks on 26 September 2018 for the UN HLM on TB.
