Assessing TB Program Impacts and efficiency

20-22 July 2016, Geneva, Switzerland - The Stop TB Partnership and The Global Fund jointly convened a workshop with participation of the WHO and teams of seven countries.

The purpose of the workshop was to assess TB program impacts and cost efficiency using the TIME model. The country teams took part in a hands-on TB modelling exercise to estimate the cost and impact of the implementation of the Global Plan targets and their National Strategic Plans. Global experts trained the teams to use the TIME model with the best epidemiological and costing data. Each country developed impact estimates and projections under different implementation scenarios.

In brainstorming sessions, participants shared inputs on specific country needs and suggested approaches for expanding in-country impact assessment, in order to evaluate and further strengthen national programs. The country participants provided positive feedback on the exercise and found it very useful. There is a demand from the countries for technical assistance and support to conduct similar exercises and capacity building at country level. This would allow countries to develop more robust National Strategic Plans, through projected scenarios, ensure cost-effectiveness and improve program efficiencies.

The following countries participated in the workshop: Bangladesh, Congo (Democratic Republic), Mozambique, Pakistan, Philippines, Tanzania and Thailand.
