Our largest ever call for proposals for community and civil society for a TB response that is rights-based, gender-transformative, people-centered and accountable
16th December, Geneva: Following a highly successful Stop TB Partnership board meeting in Jakarta, and all the great news we shared last week, we are now proud to invite you to apply for funding through the Challenge Facility for Civil Society 2019 call for proposals.
This year's call, in alignment with the United Nations Political Declaration on TB and the updated Global Plan to End TB, is to augment and embed community, rights and gender (CRG) in TB for an equitable response.

About Challenge Facility for Civil Society
Supported by USAID and the Global Fund Strategic Initiative to Find the Missing People with TB, the Challenge Facility for Civil Society (CFCS) is the Stop TB Partnership grant mechanism for TB affected community and civil society grassroots organizations to transform the TB response so that it promotes and protects human rights and gender equality. Strengthening community and civil society actors is an ethical and programmatic imperative in this pursuit.
Tuberculosis is a disease of the shadows, entrenched in communities that have always struggled to make ends meet and lack many basic needs. People in these communities have increased exposure to TB because of a variety of risk factors, including: poverty, limited access to quality healthcare services, criminalization, and biological factors. These same factors of marginalization and inequity inhibit peoples’ right to the highest standard of physical and mental health and serve as barriers to accessing TB care and support services. And without quality care and treatment, the odds of surviving TB are substantially reduced.
For an equitable TB response that confronts these challenges CFCS supports community and civil society actors to engage in community-driven and high-level advocacy, to overcome the barriers in reaching services, and to monitor the TB response so that governments are accountable to the commitments they made in the UNHLM Declaration to end TB.
Who can apply?
Community and civil society organizations working in any of the following countries or regions are eligible to apply for Challenge Facility for Civil Society 2019 funding.
- For countries (Track 1): The following countries can apply: Bangladesh, Cambodia, DR Congo, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Africa, Tanzania, and Ukraine.
- For Regions (Track 2): Regional proposals from the following regions can apply: Anglophone Africa, Francophone Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Eastern Europe.
