1 December 2009 - More than 250 children from Nairobi’s Mathare slum attended the "Luís Figo and the World Tuberculosis/HIV Cup" event, learning about tuberculosis and HIV co-infection and then playing in a 2-day football tournament. The children also received the Stop TB Partnership’s educational comic book, “Luís Figo and the World Tuberculosis Cup”.

The final match was staged on 1 December and was attended by Dr Jorge Sampaio, the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy to Stop Tuberculosis; Mrs. Hellen Sambili, the Kenyan Minister for Youth and Sports; and Mr Wilfred Lemke, the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Adviser on sports for development and peace.

The event was organized by the Stop TB Partnership in close collaboration with Alive & Kicking, the Luís Figo Foundation, the Government of Kenya (through the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation), Mathare Youth Sports Association, UNAIDS, and Vijana Amani Pamoja.
