Stop TB Partnership mourns the loss of Dr Iqbal Master, an amazing professional, partner and colleague

18 January 2021 - Last week, the TB community lost a passionate leader, a fighter, and friend to the deadly COVID-19. Dr Iqbal Master, Clinical Manager at the King Dinuzulu Hospital, South Africa dedicated his life to fighting tuberculosis. Dr Master played a key role in making sure that children suffering from drug resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) get the best treatment possible and get cured from one of the deadliest diseases that exists. His work helped people with DR-TB to access a more effective treatment regimen that eliminated the risk of going permanently deaf. Today, more people have a better future thanks to his efforts towards injection-free regimen to treat DR TB.

Dr Master provided key insights and wisdom to support the Stop TB Partnership's Global Drug Facility to launch its Pediatric DR-TB Initiative and was a leading advocate in enabling access to child-friendly medicines and regimens for DR-TB in South Africa.

His contributions to people with TB, children suffering from the disease and the TB community at large are remembered and celebrated, we thank Dr Master for his passion, devotion and immense influence to the fight to end tuberculosis in the world.
