This Thinktank-20 (T-20) event introduced the AIDP to G20, global health, pandemic preparedness, Global Health Security and COVID-19 (Task Force 6/TF-6), and tuberculosis (TB) stakeholders. The AIDP is intended to extend national TB programs and deploy new technologies, including community use of ultraportable radiography and digital innovations, to quickly and accurately detect TB while accelerating the detection of other airborne diseases. It is slated to roll out first in Asia.

In Africa, 2.5 million people get ill with tuberculosis (TB) each year, and sadly 550, 000 die of it, representing a staggering 22.5% mortality. This is unacceptable because TB can be diagnosed, treated, and prevented. One of the biggest challenges is inadequate funding. Stop TB Partnership (STBP) recently launched the Global Plan to End TB 2023-2030, articulating priority actions and resources needed to end TB as envisaged in SDG 3.3.
This event focused on the funding needs and gaps in the TB response in Africa, with the Global Plan as the benchmark. Experienced speakers illustrated examples of financing mechanisms to engage different partners and mobilize additional resources to create a more significant impact on TB. The session included a Q&A section.
