TB knows no boundaries as Nepal PM is diagnosed with the disease

27 June 2014 - Geneva - The news today that the 75-year-old Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has been diagnosed with tuberculosis is further testament to the fact that TB knows no boundaries or borders and that it must be addressed with immediate and aggressive action.

Doctors in the US treating the Prime Minister have ruled out lung cancer, a spokesman for the premier’s Nepali Congress party said yesterday.

"The doctors have diagnosed the PM with tuberculosis, not cancer, and have told him that it can be cured quite easily," said Dilendra Prasad Badu, said his spokesman.

"I spoke to the PM today, he is feeling good and expects to be back in Nepal within a week to ten days" said Badu speaking to AFP in Kathmandu.

The Stop TB Partnership wishes the Prime Minister well and hopes that he has a speedy recovery.
